Experience the charm, the romance and the beauty of Nantucket Island. With miles and miles of beaches, historic indoor and outdoor venues, mild weather, spectacular views, world-class restaurants, and romantic accommodations, it’s no wonder that it is one of the most popular wedding destinations in the country.
However, an island wedding is not without unique challenges. You'll want to consider hiring an experienced on-island consultant unless you are planning on a very small wedding party.
Because Nantucket is such a popular wedding destination, you can find
a number of online wedding guides that provide information on
everything from florists to photographers, so we are not going to focus
on those things here. Instead, we just want to give you a few tips and
insights that may be helpful in the initial planning of your Nantucket

Nantucket is not only a popular wedding location, it is, of course, a huge tourist destination, with an estimated 40,0000 tourists arriving every summer. That is a lot of people on a very small island! Obviously, hotels and historic venues book well in advance.
So the most important thing for you to consider? PLAN EARLY! Start making plans at least one year in advance!
HIRE A CONSULTANT
No matter how much you plan ahead, Nantucket weddings are particularly vunerable to delays, cancellations and major frustrations. Unless you are planning on a very small wedding party, you should always consider a wedding consultant, and not just anyone. You need an “on-island” consultant who has the contacts and experience to deal with any unexpected problems resulting from bad weather, flight delays, last-minute accommodations, and the list go on. Also, an on-island consultant can make recommendations about florists, photographers and other vendors, while helping you stay within your budget.
The following is a not a complete list of consultants/planners, but these do come highly recommended:

Ordained ministers of the gospel may perform marriages, but they must have a certificate from the state of Massachusetts.
You can find numerous lists of Nantucket officiants online. Here are just a couple of websites:
Officiant for a Day: We think this is really interesting!
In Massachusetts, a family friend or relative can perform your
wedding ceremony. The officiant must fill out an application and submit
the application with a nominal fee to to the Massachusetts Secretary of
the Commonwealth. You should receive a letter in 4-6 weeks granting
permission for the applicant to perform the wedding ceremony.

I can’t imagine not wanting a beach wedding, but there are some truly incredible historic venues that may be just perfect for you.
If you’re like me and prefer a beach wedding, start by filling out a beach event application. To find out more about the permit and to download the 13-page application, click here. You will need to provide information on the location, number of people attending, what will be brought to the beach, clean-up plans, and advise if tents will be erected.
Brant Point Light
One of the most popular wedding spots on the island
Another reminder to PLAN EARLY and submit the application as soon as you have a date in mind. The best spots are booked far in advance.
***Even if you're planning a very small wedding, be sure to submit your application early. And remember this: Expect the unexpected! If you are planning a outdoor wedding on the beach, you MUST have a back-up tent on hand. The weather is usually beautiful in the summer and fall, but afternoon rainfall is fairly common. There are several tent rental companies on the island. Better to be prepared and dry, than caught in a downpour!
PLAN EARLY and contact the desired venue as soon as you
have a date. These popular venues book well advance, so availability
may be an issue. Also, some churches may only host member weddings, so better to check earlier than later.
