So what are Nantucket Reds?
Nantucket Reds is the name given to a line of “classic prep” clothing produced and sold exclusively by Murray’s Toggery Shop in Nantucket. The original "Nantucket Reds" started out in the 1940s as a brick-red sailcloth pant for men, inspired by uniforms worn by the New York Yacht Club. After a few wearings and washings, the pants faded to a light pink and a new trend was born. The pants were so popular, Murray decided to call them Nantucket Reds!

Today, Nantucket Reds start out as a dark salmon color,
but eventually fade to a light pink just like the originals.

Popular with residents and tourists alike, the cotton canvas pants are worn during the summer instead of khakis or chinos. And now many more items are being made in this iconic red color. Today, Murray’s Nantucket Reds include clothing and accessories for men, women and children.
Other retailers have tried to jump on the band wagon and offer Nantucket red clothing under similar names, but the original Nantucket Reds can only be purchased from Murray’s Toggery.
